Colour-pairing variant

Colours Solitaire

Deal cards one at a time from the stock. Each card must immediately go to one of four foundations (built up by colour, starting at ranks 2, 3, 4, and 5 with circular wrap from King back to Ace) or be placed face-up on one of six waste piles. Only the top card of each waste pile is available for play.

Why play Colours?

Colours adds a colour-pairing constraint to the standard deal-and-place formula, making every card placement a decision with long-term colour implications. The wraparound sequence keeps you planning past the King.

Rules overview

Deal cards one at a time. Each card goes immediately to a foundation or waste pile. Foundations start at 2, 3, 4, 5 and build by colour upward with circular wrap (King → Ace). The first card placed on any foundation sets the colour pairing for all four foundations.

Strategy tips

  • Identify the colour scheme early — the first card placed on any foundation locks the pairing for all four.
  • Keep at least one waste pile relatively light so you can extract useful cards without deep searching.
  • Foundations wrap from King back to Ace, so a King is not a dead end — plan for the wraparound.
