A matching example
In a line of 4 of Clubs, 9 of Diamonds, and 4 of Spades, the two Fours match. Select them to discard the Nine. Both Fours remain in their original order.
Adjacent cards cannot remove anything. The cards being discarded need no relationship to each other or to the endpoints.
Choose your timing
Before making a removal, picture the shorter line. Check whether it offers another match, and whether a useful endpoint would disappear. Drawing another card is an option even when a removal is available.
