Royal Quadrille Strategy

Keep the two lines of each suit moving.

Royal Quadrille has no tableau to rearrange. Its decisions happen at the waste pile: when to play its top card, when to draw again, and how to use the two permitted redeals. Learning the two foundation sequences makes every available move clear.

Two foundation lines per suit

The Ace line reads A → 3 → 5 → 7 → 9 → J → K. The Deuce line reads 2 → 4 → 6 → 8 → 10 → Q. Each line takes only its own suit. These lines do not wrap or share ranks: a 7 of hearts can only go on the heart Ace line, while an 8 of hearts can only go on the heart Deuce line.

Aces and Deuces start empty foundations as soon as you draw them. The square places hearts at the top, diamonds at the bottom, spades on the left, and clubs on the right, with the Deuce line to the right of its suit's Ace line. The visual arrangement helps locate a destination; the rank sequence decides whether the card can move.

Play before you cover

Only the top waste card can move. When it fits a foundation, play it before drawing again. A fresh draw covers it and leaves that move unavailable until a redeal brings the card back to the top. Since a card belongs to only one foundation, there is no benefit in leaving a legal move on the waste.

If the card cannot move, draw the next one. A card blocked now may become useful later in the same pass after other cards advance its foundation. If it stays buried, you have two more passes through the waste.

Use the two redeals deliberately

When the stock empties, turn the waste over without shuffling to make a new stock. You may do this twice, for at most three passes through the original deck. The order of remaining cards stays predictable. Notice which foundations are waiting on early waste cards; those cards will be available again on the next pass.

On the last pass, each missed legal card is costly. Pause whenever the waste top has a matching destination. Use Hint if the eight piles are hard to scan. Once the stock is empty and all redeals are spent, the game ends if the waste top cannot move.

A different Quadrille

The name Quadrille also refers to Captive Queens. That game places four Queens in the center and builds down from Fives and up from Sixes. Its foundation ranks and number of redeals differ, so use the Captive Queens guide for that version.
