Variant strategy

Pyramid is about access, not just arithmetic.

Anyone can spot cards that total 13. The hard part is choosing the pair that opens the most useful part of the pyramid and preserves better matches for later.

Core Pyramid tips

  • Prefer removals that uncover two cards instead of one whenever the choice is close.
  • Think about future pair availability, not just the first total-13 match you notice.
  • Use Kings efficiently because solo removals can create clean tempo if they expose strong rows.
  • Watch whether a stock or waste card should be saved for a more valuable pyramid reveal.
  • The top priority is usually board access. A playable pair is not automatically the best pair.

Best early focus

Lowering the pyramid from the top rows efficiently matters more than clearing random pairs from the bottom. Each uncovered card can change the whole decision tree.

Common mistake

Players often burn a useful waste card on a weak pair. If that same card could expose a better row later, the immediate legal move may actually be a loss in tempo.
