Picture Patience and Patriarchs
Picture Patience follows Patriarchs with two changes: the Aces and Kings stay in the shuffled deck, leaving every foundation empty at the start, and foundation reversals are forbidden. In Patriarchs, those eight base cards begin on the foundations.
Foundation and reserve rules
There are two foundations for each suit. One begins with an Ace and builds upward to a King. The other begins with a King and builds downward to an Ace. Each foundation holds thirteen cards when complete. Only exposed reserve cards and the top waste card can move onto them.
The nine reserve positions do not build on each other. Whenever a reserve card moves to a foundation, its position takes the top waste card if possible; otherwise it draws the next stock card. This refill happens as part of the move.
Stock and redeal
The stock begins with 95 face-down cards. Turn them one at a time to the waste. Only its top card can be played. After the stock empties, turn the waste over without shuffling for one more pass. There are no further redeals.
When a needed Ace or King appears, start its foundation early so the next ranks have somewhere to go. Before drawing, inspect the waste top and reserve: another draw can bury the waste card you need. Read the strategy guide for more detail.
Picture Patience is part of The Vault · Reserve builders and is a variant of Patriarchs. The eight Aces and Kings remain in the shuffled deck, and foundation reversals are forbidden.
