Patriarchs at a glance
Patriarchs is a two-deck reserve builder. Four Aces and four Kings begin the foundations, with a three-by-three reserve between them. The other 87 cards form the stock. There is no tableau building; cards move from the reserve or waste directly to foundations.
How reversals work
Each suit has two foundations. If their top ranks are consecutive, a top card can move between them when it fits the receiving foundation’s direction. For example, a 5 on the ascending foundation can move onto a 6 on the descending foundation. The reverse move is also possible when a 6 can land on a 5. Move only one card at a time; the original Ace and King always stay in place.
Click or drag an eligible foundation top to its highlighted opposite foundation. A reversal does not refill a reserve position because no card left the reserve.
Reserve, stock, and waste
Each reserve position shows one playable card. When that card goes to a foundation, the position takes the waste top if available; otherwise it takes the stock top face up. The stock can also be drawn one card at a time to waste. Only the waste top is playable, and the waste may be turned over once for a second pass.
Use a reversal to change which rank each foundation needs before drawing past a useful waste card. Read the strategy guide for examples. Picture Patience is the related variation with empty foundations and no reversals.
