Persian Rug Strategy

Open useful reserve tops.

Persian Rug starts with the familiar 64-card Crazy Quilt and eight four-card reserves instead of a stock and waste. The exposed reserves are working piles.

Open useful reserve tops

Eight reserves replace the stock, so there is no draw sequence to wait through. Examine all eight visible tops before moving a quilt card; one reserve may accept it while another holds the next rank you need.

Moving a reserve top to a foundation can uncover a buried card. Empty reserves are flexible holding places, but filling one too early can block a better transfer.

Balance the two foundation directions

Each suit builds from both Ace and King. A non-base top can cross to its partner foundation when the rank fits, exposing a card beneath it.

Reverse only when it helps a card from the quilt or reserve enter a foundation. A reversal alone can be undone and does not clear the rug.

Keep the rug opening

The quilt’s alternating orientation makes a short free edge more valuable than an isolated matching rank. Prefer a move that exposes more pieces of the weave.

Since the reserves are face up, you can plan several moves ahead. Check whether the next exposed reserve card will have a legal destination before moving the current top.

Use an empty reserve as a transfer point

When a reserve empties, any available quilt card or reserve top can fill it. This temporary landing place can free a different reserve top and help you uncover a blocked rank without using a foundation move.

Before filling an empty reserve, consider the card underneath the source card. A transfer is valuable when the newly exposed card has an immediate foundation or reserve destination.

There is no stock cycle in Persian Rug. All card locations are visible, so a careful sequence can often be planned several moves ahead. A foundation reversal can provide one more way to connect those sequences.
